Detecting Changes Faster in the Critically Ill Patient™

The OptiScanner® 5000 is a first-of-its-kind bedside blood monitoring platform that provides plasma-based, automated monitoring of ICU patients’ glucose levels. The OptiScanner 5000 directly measures plasma glucose levels using an integrated blood centrifuge and spectrometer to help avoid dangerous glycemic variations and assist clinicians in achieving the right level of glucose control.

It is well-proven that critically ill patients often suffer from stress-induced hyperglycemia, glycemic variability or hypoglycemia, which has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Healthcare providers can use the OptiScanner to track a patient’s glucose in real-time. Trending data allows the clinicians to detect changes earlier and make proactive decision to help patients stay within the targeted glycemic range.

The OptiScanner Difference

Plasma Based – directly measures glucose levels in blood plasma
No Calibration – mid-infrared spectroscopy never requires time-consuming calibration, unlike reagent-based technologies
Trending – automatically measures and trends glucose levels every 15 minutes, delivering an early warning system that supports proactive intervention

The OptiScanner 5000 uses a proprietary patient connector as an interface between the patient’s IV line and the unit. This seamless connection with the distal port of any vascular access line eliminates the need for heparin delivery to the patient.

OptiScan Biomedical is expanding the OptiScanner platform to include additional metabolic and hemodynamic analytes using the same sample of blood.
